Over the course of more than 30 years, we have had the privilege of supporting more than 11,000 projects; here is a small selection:

1. 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany

The Turf Expertise Team for the 2006 World Cup was a panel of experts appointed by the Organizing Committee and FIFA that was responsible for the quality and consistency of the playing surfaces in all twelve World Cup stadiums and all training fields.

Members of the Expert Team

  • Rainer Ernst: Leading turf expert and key coordinator of the group.
  • Engelbert Lehmacher, Oliver Schneider: Recognized experts in sports field construction and turf.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Quality and Standard Specifications: Development of criteria for the official World Cup “character turf” (an extremely durable blend with a high proportion of meadow grass).
  • Cultivation and Logistics: Monitoring the cultivation of turf on designated fields and coordinating the large-scale installation using large rolls immediately following the end of the Bundesliga season in spring 2006.
  • Training and Knowledge Transfer: Conducting hands-on training and continuing education for stadium groundskeepers in collaboration with DEULA Kempen.
  • Tournament Support: Providing ongoing consultation and quality control of the playing surfaces before and during the World Cup to ensure optimal ball roll characteristics.

To ensure that the world-class stars had no complaints about erratic ball bounce or sprained ankles, the “Turf Expertise Team” was tasked with ensuring the highest quality of the playing surfaces in the stadiums. “The turf in the stadium is like the stage in a theater,” says landscape architect Engelbert Lehmacher, who, together with his colleague Rainer Ernst, has formed this unusual team since the fall of 2004.

2. 2024 European Championship in Germany

For the 2024 European Championship as well, we - as the Turf Expertise Team - were once again part of the team responsible for quality assurance at the stadiums and training fields. Together with our partner, we were responsible for all stadiums and training fields for EURO 2024. An initial assessment of all stadiums and training fields took place as early as 2022. Since then, renovation, maintenance, and repair measures for the playing fields have been discussed and coordinated in close collaboration with the operators. The goal was to ensure that all fields were in top condition for the teams during the 2024 tournament.
