As a testing laboratory, we see it as our mission not only to verify compliance with current standards but also to actively contribute to their further development. That is why we are involved in various research projects and have maintained a close partnership with Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences for many years.

Current Research Projects

UKuRa – Environmentally Friendly Synthetic Turf Through Reduced Plastic Loss and Consumption
Together with Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (Prof. Martin Thieme-Hack) and other partners such as FieldTurf Tarkett and Morton Extrusionstechnik, we are researching alternatives to synthetic infill materials as well as ways to prevent microplastic emissions from synthetic turf systems - while maintaining consistent playing quality. Funded by the Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp), this project provides important insights for builders, planners, and future standardization efforts.

ZirKuS – Circular, Digitalized Artificial Turf System
In this larger, BMFTR-funded collaborative project (involving, among others, RWTH Aachen University, TFI Aachen, and other industry partners), we are responsible for the certification component. The goal is a recyclable, digitally monitored artificial turf system, including a leasing model for field operators - an important building block for the circular economy in sports facility construction.

SiTor – Safety Goal: Development of a Stable, Easy-to-Transport Soccer Goal
In this research project - initiated by Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, funded by BISp, and involving the German Football Association (DFB) - we contributed our many years of practical experience in road safety testing of sports facilities. The goal was to develop a safer, easier-to-handle portable soccer goal - in response to recurring accidents caused by improperly set up or stored goals.

Sustainability at Outdoor
Sports Facilities As a cooperation partner of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Landscape Architecture at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, we contributed to the development of a sustainability assessment system for outdoor sports facilities - consisting of criteria fact sheets, a building materials assessment catalog, and standard planning guidelines.

Knowledge Transfer & Exchange

Osnabrück Sports Field Days
For many years, we have been an integral part of this symposium, co-organized by Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, the FLL, and the Federal Institute for Sports Science - both as speakers on topics such as pollutant loads and microplastic discharge, and as a sponsor of the event.

Practical Training
We regularly host students from the “Landscape Engineering” program at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences for company visits - to provide them with direct insight into testing practices beyond theory and textbooks.
